LUXURY PLANTATION APARTMENTS
While some people love unpacking and decorating a new home, we know that others hate the entire process. At The Waves, we’ve put together a list of tips to follow as you move. Before you come home to our luxury Plantation apartments, refer to this guide to prepare for packing and moving! We can guarantee that the process will be a whole lot easier.
Purge Items
Before you even begin packing up to come home to The Waves, you need to do some purging. This step is crucial because you shouldn’t make the process harder on yourself by taking items with you that you never use. It’s okay – we all have junk. Go through your closet and part with any pieces you haven’t worn in the last six months. Donate any decorations that you’re tired of. Visit the kitchen to get rid of any pots, pans, dishes, etc. that you have extra of. Purging items from your home will make the moving process so much easier!
Visit Your Local Liquor Store
We don’t mean for a bottle to sip on while you pack. Liquor stores get inventory shipments every day, which means they always have cardboard boxes that they’re throwing out. You’ll need plenty of these for packing! Sometimes you can find them near the dumpster, but you can always head inside and ask for the worker’s help. They will be happy to get rid of them!
Pack an “Essentials” Bag/Box
This is just like packing for an overnight trip, but one step further. First, pack a bag full of whatever you normally need for an overnight stay. Then, fill a box full of items that you think you’ll need for the first day and night in an empty apartment. This could be plastic plates and utensils, tools, bottled water, extension cords, cleaning supplies, and more.
Use Plastic Totes for Breakables and Heavier Items
Instead of always trusting a cardboard box to do the job, use plastic totes to pack heavy items like dishes, books, and any other important items that you don’t want to fall out of the box. Stores like Big Lots have great deals on plastic storage items that come in a variety of sizes.
Use Household Items for Packing
- Towels, blankets, clothes, dishcloths, sheets, etc. work great as extra padding when packing breakable items. This will cut down the amount of packing paper or newspaper that you’ll use.
- Fill up your duffle bags, backpacks, luggage and anything else that functions as a carrier with things you need to pack! If something has wheels and you can stuff it full, your trips become even easier.
- Use Ziploc baggies, trash bags, and plastic bags to keep like items together. Large Ziplocs are great for items like silverware, jewelry, cosmetics, toiletries, remotes, and more. Trash bags are perfect for stuffing clothes and shoes in. Plastic bags (from Walmart, i.e.) work well for DVDs, spices, and cleaning products.
